Iran Pushing for War?

The regime in Iran seems to think they can get away with whatever they want...and the sad thing is, they probably can.  They've been developing nuclear weapons for quite a while now, despite sternly worded warnings from the UN, and even trade sanctions haven't stopped them from trading with nations such as Russia and North Korea, who don't give a damn what the UN thinks, either.

Iran is like a three-year-old.  Give an inch, and they'll take a mile.  Let them get away with one thing, and they'll see how far they can go, testing the limits just enough so that the "global community" won't annihilate them, but also so they will have increased room to maneuver and plot and scheme.

Now, Iran is in the news for more than just nuclear weapons.  A group calling themselves the "Iranian Cyber Army" hacked into Twitter, shutting the site down for several hours.  The message they posted: "This site has been hacked by Iranian Cyber Army. U.S.A think they controlling and managing internet by their access, but they don't, we control and manage internet by our power..."  The message also included the statement "Hezbollah is victorious."

Was this hack perpetrated by the Iranian government?  Who knows...it's more likely that this is an Iranian/Islamic terrorism-sympathetic cyber-terrorist group, but it's really impossible to tell at this early juncture.  Nations have increasingly been getting into cyber-warfare, which makes me wonder whether the Iranian government would try to show some muscle by temporarily bringing down one of the "Great Satan's" biggest websites.

The other incident that has put Iran back into the headlines is much, much more serious.  Iranian forces have taken over an Iraqi oil well in what is no less than an act of war.  It's not being treated that way by those in power, of course, because there is so much pressure from the worldwide progressive movement to avoid war no matter what that we may as well just let the Muslim extremists and communist dictators take over the world now & save us the trouble of a long, drawn out ordeal.  After all, Saddam Hussein did everything he could to provoke the UN, and all he got were sanctions (rendered meaningless by backdoor dealings with France & Russia), empty resolutions, and sternly-worded warnings.  It took the "cowboy" George W. Bush to finally do something about Hussein, and even then the UN still protested!

It's no wonder nations like Iran and North Korea act like the US and the UN are nothing but paper tigers.  With George W. Bush in power, at least there was the threat of force to keep evil regimes at bay, but now that anti-war progressives are basically running the entire Western world, it's abundantly clear that they will be able to run roughshod over all of the resolutions and warnings with little or no consequences.

Iran: More of a Threat than Ever

Iran continues its belligerence: according to Iraq, Iran has continued its shelling of northern Iraq. There have also been multiple reports over the past few months that Iranian troops have been causing problems in the north. This is definitely not good news: Iran is getting bolder. President Bush recently warned them about their involvement in Iraq...but they're not listening. The truth is, aside from radical Islamist terrorist cells, Iran is the preeminent threat to the Western world today. They have openly supported Hamas and Hezbollah, among other terrorist organizations, they have made blatant threats against Israel, and it appears as though they are trying to provoke the US or Israel to attack, probably in order to try and justify some sort of retaliatory strike.

The threat of Islamic terrorism is ever-increasing...be wary of any presidential candidates who promote opening diplomatic ties with Iran.

Pelosi: Dangerously Close to Illegal

Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House and moon bat extraordinaire, has definitely been busy. After pushing through a pork-laden war funding bill doomed to face a Presidential veto, she then traveled to Syria, where she met with Syrian dictator-in-chief Bashar al-Assad. It's unclear just what went on between Pelosi and Assad while she was in Syria, but there is quite a bit of speculation that there were some backdoor dealings leading up to the release of the British Royal Marines taken hostage by the Iranian military.

Now it is looking more and more likely that Pelosi will be traveling to Iran. Rep. Tom Lantos (D-CA), who accompanied Pelosi to Syria, has indicated that he is eager to go to Iran, and has been trying to get a visa for 10 years. A top member of the Iranian parliament has stated that they are ready to talk with Speaker Pelosi. Obviously, this is because Pelosi is much more likely to capitulate to the Iranians' demands.

By traveling to Syria as she did, Pelosi came dangerously close to violating the Logan Act - a felony offense. The Logan act was passed for a reason - it is paramountly important that the United States government present one unified foreign policy stance. America's laws state that our foreign policy is to be determined by the Executive branch, primarily via the State Department. Many Americans oppose President Bush's foreign policy decisions, but presenting a single, unified foreign policy stance to the world is much, much more important than any party's political differences. If Pelosi is allowed to make unauthorized foreign policy decisions, it will potentially threaten the very fabric of our government, especially if Pelosi makes promises that President Bush and the State Department are not willing to fulfill.

Pelosi is playing at an extremely dangerous game here, and she'd do best to play carefully.

Pelosi has also been commenting on the President's impending veto of the bill funding the Iraq War. According to Pelosi, President Bush wants a "blank check" for the war. The truth is, the spending bill churned out by what Pelosi said would be one of the most ethical and open Congresses in US history was filled to the brim with pork-barrel spending. It truly is a disgraceful piece of legislation, and extremely worthy of a veto. Before the House's recess, Pelosi neglected to appoint negotiators to draft a new war spending bill...and she has called a letter by Republicans, urging her to reconvene the House in order to get this legislation moving a "political stunt."

The truth is that the Democrats are against the war, so they have decided to play their own political games with the war...and now Nancy Peolosi is trying to play games not only with US foreign policy, but with the very structure of the US government.
